My name is Delaney Collins, and I am a junior at UWEC with a double major in Psychology and Social Work. As a McNair scholar, I plan to utilize my majors to create an intersectional perspective of mental health for my graduate studies in Clinical Psychology. My research interests consist of studying the psychological effects of marginalized communities and understanding severe mental illnesses. My extensive coursework in Women, Gender, and Sexual Studies have granted me the insight and educational background of comprehending the implications of oppression and privilege. By participating in this lab, I have been able to collaborate and work under Dr. Jackson's supervision, which has provided me the crucial experience to act as a competitive student in graduate school.

Ximonia Pederson

Greetings! My name is Ximona Pederson and I am a junior with a major in Psychology, minor in Family Studies, and certificate in American Sign Language. I am from a very small town nearby Eau Claire called Osseo, with a population of 1,500 people. Coming to Eau Claire made me realize that I had not been exposed to a variety of different ethnicities growing up. This experience allowed me to have research interests in racial identity within the adolescence stages, minority upbringings, along with the understanding of Deaf culture from a hearing person’s point of view. My aspirations after my Undergrad Schooling is to enroll in a Master’s Program in School Psychology. Eventually, I hope to work with adolescence in encouraging them to get a higher level of education and be a good support system for students who do not have those opportunities.
